How to talk to your clients about Disability Insurance

Even though disability insurance (DI) may not be as familiar as other products, like life insurance or employee benefits, DI is just as, or even more, important. Remember to ask clients about their income and business protection, and then recommend DI solutions to help meet their needs.

  1. Help clients see the big picture: You don’t expect anything bad to happen, but if it does, disability insurance covers your expenses when you can’t work.
  2. Make it personal: Do you know anyone who’s suffered from back problems, heart disease or cancer? Did they have a back-up plan for their unexpected illness or injury?
  3. Show what disability insurance is worth:  Do you know your earning potential over the course of your lifetime?
